  • I can't say enough great things about these guys. Had everything wrapped and loaded in record time. At the other end they had everything done again record time again.

Packing / Moving Tips

Unsure of where to begin? American Van Lines™ can help make your task of packing much easier. Below you find information on Packing Tips, Loading Tips, and Illegal/Dangerous Items Not To Pack.

Packing properly is essential for a successful move. If you choose to handle any relocation’s packing job yourself, it’s particularly important that you are familiar with the best boxes and techniques to protect your valuable possessions.

To begin, discard any and all unwanted items, like old clothes, kitchenware and toys before you start packing to avoid extra clutter or confusion. When it comes to packing, group similar items together, like magazines with books, and silverware with dishes. Never overload your boxes. In fact, keep heavier items, like books, in smaller boxes. Label every box, and write “FRAGILE” on any box carrying glass.

Use white paper, rather than newspaper, to avoid ink stains on your gear. Then, wrap all glasses items individually in several layers of paper. Do NOT stack glasses inside each other. Fill gaps with scrunched up paper, rather than leaving empty spaces in your boxes. And when sealing a carton, only use packing tape.

Finally, there are several hazardous items that will need to be relocated with you, rather than on a moving truck. This list includes potentially dangerous materials, such as gasoline, lighter fluid, paints and nail polish remover. Now you’re set, and American Van Lines™ wishes you good luck with your smooth move.
